Mediatonic hire Jo Harman as VP of People
Founded in 2005, Mediatonic is a successful video games studio with an impressive portfolio of over 100 games with the likes of Microsoft and Warner Bros. Following a £25m investment from PE firm Synova Capital in 2019, JD&Co Executive Search partnered with the Co-Founder and CEO, Dave as the business was entering a period of global growth, with plans to expand from 200 to 500 people over the next 4 years. We worked in close collaboration to bring an injection of Exec level People and Talent Acquisition expertise as they embarked on their ambitious growth journey, and we were both delighted to hire game-changing VP People, Jo Harman to support Dave and the LT. Jo brought a breadth of people leadership experience from her time at creative agency, Karmarama and was the perfect match for the values of Mediatonic. The focus for Jo will be all around creating and leading a compelling and long term people strategy and implementing the infrastructure and rigour to support learning, development, culture and performance at Mediatonic as they globally scale.
Zencargo hire Dominique Sivak as Head of People
In 2019, JD&Co Executive Search were thrilled to partner with disruptive, digital-first freight forwarder, Zencargo at an exciting stage of their growth journey and as they looked to hire their first senior people leader. Founded in 2017 and backed by some of Europe’s leading VC’s including Local Globe, Picus Capital and Samos Investments, Zencargo had grown to 50 people and had just secured their series A round, bringing total funds to $20m. JD&Co partnered with the Co-Founder and CEO, Alex to hire a culture and engagement focused Head of People that would bring creativity and innovation around their people strategy, as they put in place the building blocks to solidify them as an employer of choice and help scale globally to 1000 people over the next 4 years. The end result was hiring the brilliant Dominique Sivak, who not only was the perfect cultural match for Alex and the LT but also brought a wonderful blend of both strategic and hands on experience from her time at high growth startup, Kano Computing.
Luno hire Kelly Jackson as Chief People Officer
Balderton Capital backed, post Series B scaleup Luno, is a leading global player in cryptocurrency with over 2 million customers in 40 countries. JD&Co Executive Search partnered with their Founder and CEO, Marcus in 2019 to help them hire their first Exec level people leader. Marcus was in search of a real game changer and strategic sparring partner who would support his vision of building one of the best teams in the world through attracting, retaining, rewarding and developing some of the most talented minds in fintech. We were delighted to hire Kelly Jackson as Chief People Officer who joined the SLT at a pivotal moment as they embarked on a hypergrowth journey to take them from 200 to 400 people across London, South Africa and Asia. Kelly brought a depth of people leadership expertise and had a strong track record. Previously, as Chief People Officer for high-growth fintech WorldFirst, she scaled the business from 250 to 650 people across 9 worldwide locations and led a people-first company culture. Luno was founded in 2013 and has since raised almost $14m from various investors, including an impressive $9m series B round in 2017 led by Balderton Capital.
Thortful hire Letitia Allman as Head of Creative Talent
Long term partners and friends of JD&Co, Thortful enlisted our help again in 2020 to hire the brilliant Letitia Allman as Head of Creative Talent. Letitia joined Thortful after successful stints at ASOS and Student High Street where she had honed a unique skillset within Marketplace businesses that made her the perfect match for Thortful’s creative brief. JD&Co Teambuilder and Thortful have partnered up many times over the years, helping them scale their talent as they grow.
Skin+Me hire Omri Lustig as Head of Growth
The brilliant, Octopus Investments backed, D2C subscription ecommerce business, Skin+Me got in touch with TeamBuilder when they needed to hire a Head of Growth to join their team and help craft their customer acquisition and growth function from the ground up. Skin+Me were pre-launch and still in stealth mode when we kicked off, with £8m of investment in the bank and an impressive team of co-founders and investors from the likes of graze.com, Charlotte Tilbury, Tails.com, Facebook and LoveFilm spearheading their growth, we worked in close partnership with Co-Founder Rachel Jones, to understand their needs and develop a hiring strategy to find the perfect person, Omri Lustig. Omri joins Skin+Me following a successful run at Flash Pack, and several years prior to that honing his craft within high-end digital marketing agencies including Performics and Dentsu Aegis.
Northzone hire Vincent Touati-Tomas as Director of Marketing & Communications
In 2020, the TeamBuilder team at JD&Co had an amazing opportunity to partner with the exceptional, early-stage venture capital fund, Northzone. Northzone partner with founders at Seed, Series A and Series B stage across Europe and the US. Their impressive portfolio of digital disruptors includes Spotify, Klarna, Kahoot!, iZettle and Tier to name a few. Working closely with the Head of Operations, Elena, we built a strong partnership to closely collaborate throughout the process, carefully selecting each candidate based on some specific key criteria and offering guidance and counsel throughout to ensure we stayed on track and worked towards making the right hire. The end result was hiring the brilliant Vincent Touati-Tomas as their Director of Marketing & Communications. Vincent’s previous successes include Founders Factory and Daphni to name a few, and he is a strong addition to the Northzone team.
allplants hire Jenny Thwaites as CGO, Martin Prasad as COO and James Hume as Finance Director
Octopus Investments & Felix Capital backed, post Series A startup allplants and JD&Co Executive Search teamed up in 2019 to work on a number of key hires for their fledgling business. allplants was founded in 2016, and has since raised over £10m from various investors, including an astonishing £3m in a recent crowdfunding campaign. Currently with a headcount of around 60 people, we worked closely with the co-founder and CEO, JP to forensically examine their needs and desires for these hires, and worked tirelessly until we found the perfect talent to join them. We were thrilled to help them hire three experts who perfectly matched their criteria – Jenny Twaites as Chief Growth Officer who had previously worked at Houst & Go Henry, Martin Prasad as Chief Operating Officer with his strong operating background within the food industry, and James Hume as Finance Director with his exceptional experience within Innocent and graze.com
Patch hires Jim Warren as CMO
JD&Co Executive Search were delighted to partner with Octopus Investments & Forward Partners backed, D2C ecommerce business, Patch Plants at a crucial stage in their post Series A growth, to hire Jim Warren as their CMO. Jim had previously spent time in high growth, ecommerce success stories such as Notonthehightstreet, Brand Alley and Bloom & Wild building out their growth marketing functions from scratch and developing enviable customer acquisition strategies. Jim was the perfect choice for Patch and has since transitioned to a board advisory role. Founded in 2015, Patch’s current headcount is around 40 people, and they have raised over £3m in venture funding to scale rapidly across the UK and Western Europe.
Glue hire Sarah Karlsson as Customer Success Manager & Felicia Thelin as Marketing Manager
At the end of 2019, JD&Co’s long term partnership with the high growth smart home scaleup Glue Home, went from strength to strength when they once again teamed up with Teambuilder to hire the lovely Sarah Karlsson as Customer Success Manager, and brilliant Felicia Thelin as Marketing Manager. Glue were delighted with the hires and both will be key team members to bolt the business together as they continue to scale. Founded by ex Facebook & Trade Doubler’s Diego Oliva and Carl Johan Grandinson, Glue has raised over £10m in private investment since their inception in 2014 and current headcount sits at around 50 people.

JD&Co led and completed three simultaneous searches to hire the COO, CFO and Technical Director for high growth traveltech business Holiday Extras. Andrew Parker joined the leadership team from Veeve as Chief Data Officer, and has since transitioned into CFO. Andrew helped take Badoo from start-up to one of the largest technology companies by profit in Europe. Rory Normanton joins MyTaxi as Regional General Manager
JD&Co have partnered once again with leading e-hailing app mytaxi, working with COO, Andy Batty to hire a Regional GM to drive operational excellence across UK & EMEA and to continue leading the rapid international growth of mytaxi. Rory’s career has spanned huge successes from launching and scaling Rocket Internet’s marketplace model Kaymu (now Jumia) across 16+ markets to being an integral part of the expansion team at Uber and an Entrepreneur in Residence at Techstars. Rory then joined Breather where he launched their European business in London before going on to become General Manager across all global markets. Pim Piers & Andrew McLean join Unbiased as COO & CTO
JD&Co partnered with Unbiased, not once, but twice to hire their COO and CTO to help them achieve their future growth ambitions. Pim Piers joined the board at the end of last year, bringing with him a track record of raising significant Venture Capital sums and successfully selling VC backed businesses to Private Equity firms, which has uSwitch amongst others. Andrew McLean later came on board, responsible for scaling both the engineering team and the technical infrastructure, to support an exciting growth strategy that will see Unbiased add new products to its portfolio and scale across multiple verticals.
