bagsfullsizerender_1024 (1)When we told our friends, network and colleagues that we needed their help to brighten the lives of children in Nepal, boy did they deliver! We are overwhelmed by the response and generosity shown by our existing and new JD&Co friends to let these children know they are all in our thoughts.

Working alongside the charities, ACCESS and Shakti Milan Nepal, we collected over 340kgs (!) of soft toys and brightly coloured clothing to send out to the children at the ACCESS Transitional home in Kathmandu. The home is a short-term safe shelter facility to the children suffered from child slavery (child labor exploitation), sexual abuse and violence, with an objective of a safe and sustainable reintegration of these children back to their biological family and community.

Gokul Subedi from ACCESS told us:

“The need here is huge. So every single toy and cloth counts and serves the needy children in Nepal. I will be very happy to report to you how these wonderful gifts are bringing comfort and a smile to the faces of the children. Please accept a selfless smile from our children in the transitional home. Many thanks to you and your amazing team.

Our CEO, Jo Dalton added:

“With so many worthwhile causes, growing numbers of people in need across the world and global disasters, we were stunned and so appreciative of the volume of donations we received, so thank you for digging deep yet again.  It never ceases to amaze me just how kind and generous people can be with their time and their belongings, which they no longer need. Some even went out and bought brand new clothes and toys to donate, some gift-wrapped them too. Just overwhelming. Thank you so much for supporting such a worthy cause.”

We would like to extend a special thank you to our local school LVS in Ascot, Berkshire, who included the appeal in their assemblies as teachers asked pupils to donate one of their teddies to send on a life-changing vacation. A huge thank you is also needed for Relay For Life Ascot, a local cancer research charity that hand-knitted wool scarves for an event, then generously donated them to send out to the children too.

Another thank you to our local community who popped into JD HQ to drop off donations and even some Christmas gifts which were lovingly all ready wrapped up ready to send. So generous!

The community spirit didn’t stop there as yet another local business and valued friend of JD&Co stepped in to lend us the use of their warehouse, boxes and packing facilitates – thank you so much! All donations were happily sent on their journey from our shores yesterday, and will reach their destination just in time for Christmas. We cannot wait to see the look on the children’s face as their massive freight arrives! We will be sure to share this joy with you very soon. And finally, if you donated – thank you so much. Your toy, t-shirt or gift will be brightening the days of children who need help more than we can ever imagine.

A massive thank you from Jo & the JDers – we couldn’t have done it without you!

All donations are kindly being shipped to Nepal by our kind friends at a local freight business. They and JD & Co. are covering the cost.
